The ICS began experiencing difficulties on Sunday 25 October 2015 from approximately 4pm and continued until Monday 26 October 2015, 3am. This affected all inbound and outbound EDI messaging and access to the Customs Interactive.
The problem was identified as a failed motherboard on a critical server. The Department implemented a workaround on Monday 26 October 2015 at approximately 12.30 am that allowed the processing of all inbound and outbound EDI messaging. The Customs Interactive remained unavailable on Monday 26 October 2015 until approximately 3.30 am when the faulty motherboard was replaced. Since that time there have been no further recurrences of this issue.
The initial impact for the Department resulted in an increase of calls to the Cargo Support Centre. Business Continuity processes were used on Saturday 25 October 2015 from 8pm for a period of four hours.
Investigations identified a faulty motherboard on a server that was used for ICS messaging the Customs Interactive. The emergency replacement of that motherboard alleviated all problems for ICS inbound and outbound messaging and the Customs Interactive.
Industry was notified of the incident and provided with updates through the Cargo Support Centre.
